As a college student myself I know it isn't always easy to live and act
green or sustainable.
However over 4 years of college I've picked up some
tips and tricks that will enable other students to live green and eat sustainably.
Sustainable Eating on
the cheap
As college students we are always looking for a
meal deal without burning a hole in our pockets.
What's even better is if a restaurant is sustainble and follows
sustainable practices.
Below is a list of the top restaurants in Dublin city
that not only suit students but are also sustainable.
Sprezzatura
-
- Anything and everything from salads, soups and stews to
falafel rolls and even pancakes.
- All suitable for those of us who are gluten
intolerant or vegan.
- Not only are the labels on their packaging
biodegradeable but their coffee cups and packaging are all compostable.
- This
is a restaurant that suits the needs for all typees of students in the heart
of Temple Bar.
Chopped
-
-
- Located throughout Dublin city centre this restaurant is a
big hit with students from what I've seen.
- It's my number one restaurant to
go to for sustainable and healthy eating.
- Whilst it's not the cheapest
restaurant they do offer discounts to students who visit their restaurant.
- Your order is made in front of you so you can
ensure that all ingredients are fresh and you know what is in your order.
- All containers and bags used by chopped are 100%
recycleable and compostable.
- They work with IPPC rated suppliers which
ensures that pollution of land, air and water is reduced as-well as waste.
-
-
Leon Naturally Fast Food
-
- Not only does this restaurant offer a 15% student discount but their
staff outside of their shifts are entitled to a 60% discount.
- All their suppliers are local and their coffee is organic and has the fairtrade label
also.
Green Bench Cafe
- The Green bench source all their ingredients
locally.
- While there is no mention of student discounts on their website or
socials they are an afforable restaurant for student pockets.
- Soups and
sandwiches are between 4 and 5 euro. The Green Bench's
menu is also dairy and gluten free.
- .
-
Wagamama
- They offer a 20% discount off of all their main dishes.
- They
have introduced a new sustainable
policy called "Midori" which means green.
- They created a new strategy called fade to
grey.
- Their bowls werent being detected by the scanners in recycling centres
because they were black in colour.
- So they have changed the colour of their
bowls to grey to fix this issue.
Swapsies
This is a relatively new initiative in Dublin. You take your 5 old items and
bring them to a swapsies event.
Then you can literally swap these items or even better
turn them into a bag.
"Swapsies is a sustainable solution for your closet and we
are on a mission to help you swap over shop."
